Performing Group Events
We will provide specific information about this season's schedule to Performing Group dancers when it becomes available.
General Information
Each season, our Performing Group dancers attend several Competitions, take master classes at a Convention, and perform their competition dances in our Spring Recital. There are also some additional, optional events for dancers who are interested in them.
Typically, three or four of our events each season are mandatory for Performing Group dancers. If you have potential conflicts with any of the mandatory events, please let us know as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly.
Note that all competition and convention sign-up forms have due dates. The rates for all events increase if the due dates are missed, so be sure to get your forms in on time!
Check Your Monday Email for the Most Up-To-Date Information
As we go through the season, we update Performing Group members with a weekly email which goes out each Monday. Please refer to the most recent Monday email for the most up-to-date information.
Transportation
Although we sometimes are able to arrange car pools, parents are ultimately responsible for getting their child to and from all events or for making arrangements with another family to do so. Please refer to your Performing Group contact sheet if you need to contact another family.
Attendance Before a Performance or Competition
Every competition and performance can be different, with different performance areas, sizes, requirements, and schedules; we may have to adjust our dances accordingly. The organizers of the events we attend sometimes do not supply us with this information until the week before the event. Therefore . . .
It is highly recommended that Performing Group Students attend all classes the week before any mandatory performance or competition. Please plan ahead to get your homework done and try to avoid scheduling anything that would conflict with class the week before any mandatory event. If you are not feeling well, come and watch your class. If you very ill and cannot attend class, call the studio.
Mandatory Competitions
Typically, we choose three Mandatory Competitions each season. (Younger dancers may have fewer than three.) We will let Performing Group members know which Competitions will be mandatory in the early Fall. Students who prepare a Special Number (solo, duo, or trio) may also choose to compete in one or more Optional Competitions.
The following are Conventions we have attended or considered attending in past years.
- Groove Dance Competition
- Dancer’s Inc. Dance Competition
- Cathy Roe Ultimate Dance Competition
- Dance Xplosion Dance Competition
- VIP Dance Competition
- Onstage New York Dance Competition
- Dance Expressions Dance Competition
- Beyond the Stars Dance Competition
- Bravo National Talent Competition
- Cue the Music Dance Competition
- Dance Xplosion Dance Competition
- Starpower National Dance Competition
Conventions
Our older performging group students are required to attend at least one Convention each year. Conventions are recommended but optional for younger dancers. Most years, we pick one Convention at which someone from our staff will be present; we recommend dancers new to Conventions choose to attend that one. Students may a different Convention, but we cannot guarantee that our staff will be attending.
Competitions Attached to Conventions
- Several Conventions have attached Competitions. We typically do not perform Group Routines at Convention/Competitions unless an entire group is attending the same Convention.
- Many Convention/Competitions have a limit as to how many solos can be entered. Please do not assume that you will be able to compete your solo at these events. We typically pick solos to compete at these events based upon the student’s group level and age.
Observer Fees
- Most Conventions have observer fees; that means parents must purchase a ticket (or possibly a wristband) to see the event. The observer fee only needs to be paid if the parent wishes to actually go into the classrooms and watch the classes. You do not have to pay an observer fee if you plan to stay in the building but do not plan on going into the classrooms. Note: If there is an optional competition attached to the convention, they usually allow the audience in without charge (or with minimal charge).
